Welcome
to Parkridge Harbor and
greetings on behalf of the Parkridge Harbor Board and staff. In May of
1996 a group of professionals resolved to organize a day center for
persons suffering with catastrophic illnesses. At the time significant
gaps existed in health care which left many with little emotional support
while undergoing the debilitating effects of a catastrophic illness. Positively Living,
which Parkridge Harbor was originally known by, was brought to
life with a $25,000 start-up grant from the Robert Wood Johnson
Foundation. Incorporation followed in July of 1997. Since those early
years, the agency has strived to fulfill a unique social service niche
assisting those most vulnerable.
Positively Living acquired its current facility at 1501 East Fifth Avenue
in 2003. The 22,000 square foot building was purchased with the help of
the City of Knoxville, Knox County, Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati and The
Department of Housing and Urban Development. The agency’s name was
changed to Parkridge Harbor shortly after renovation was complete to
reflect the expanding mission and services offered to the community.
Today, Parkridge Harbor operates as a 501c(3) not-for-profit agency
providing case management, supportive housing and alcohol / drug
counseling.
I am proud to serve as Executive Director for Parkridge
Harbor. We are constantly inspired do a better job today than we did yesterday,
and look for innovative ways to address tomorrow’s issues. I encourage you to join
us in sharing our vision.
Respectfully,
Stephen M. Jenkins
Executive Director
