HOPWA
(Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS)
The HOPWA program is a collaborative effort between Parkridge Harbor and the East Tennessee Human Resource Agency intended to serve the housing needs of persons affected by HIV in the sixteen counties of the East Tennessee Region. HOPWA financial assistance is available to eligible clients to aid in stabilizing their lives and thereby preventing homelessness. Funds are available for rental assistance, utility assistance, home improvement necessary to maintain a livable environment, and substance abuse treatment. To be eligible for assistance you must provide a proof of positive.
The coordinator of the HOPWA program is responsible for completing an intake assessment for all clients applying for assistance. If you are approved to be eligible for the program, a service plan will be created outlining the responsibilities of both the applicant and Parkridge Harbor. A review will be conducted every three months to ensure goals are being met as outlined.
The HOPWA coordinator, Leslie Blevins, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management from Tusculum College in 1997. She has spent many years providing social services in the Knoxville community during which time she has received training in HIV Counseling and Prevention.
During the time period between 2001 and 2003, Leslie worked with the Knoxville Community Development Corporation as part of the HOPE VI Project. Her efforts were part of a massive inner-city redevelopment which made homeownership a reality for many in the Mechanicsville Community. Leslie also spent a year with the Tennessee Department of Human Services working as an Eligibility Counselor.
Leslie bought her skills and talent to Parkridge Harbor in March of 2004. She is passionate about providing quality care and is dedicated to counseling and assisting individuals affected by HIV/AIDS.
